The container shipping company is brewing a sharp price increase?

With the gradual resumption of work and production in Shanghai, Shanghai's export container freight index has risen for three consecutive weeks,

and container shipping companies are also planning to launch a new round of price increases in mid-June.

The latest data released by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange last week showed that the SCFI index rose 0.78% to 4,208.01 points. This round of rise is mainly driven by the Asian route, showing the logistics demand in the early stage of the supply chain.

On the other hand, the European and American lines have deployed more ships because the container shipping company expects that there will be a large amount of cargo after the resumption of work and production in Shanghai,

but the initial cargo volume is not as expected. . According to industry analysis, the routes between Asia mainly carry raw materials and semi-finished products. With these goods, there will be finished products shipped to Europe and the United States.

On the other hand, land transportation in Shanghai, Kunshan, Suzhou and other regions is still not completely smooth, and it is estimated that the large scale will not be seen until mid-June. Shipments.

At the same time, the international shipping company is planning to raise the freight rate sharply in mid-June, with an increase of at least 10% or more.

The pressure of price increases mainly comes from two aspects.

One is the increase in cargo volume after the gradual resumption of work in Shanghai; the other is that the industry is worried about the strikes of dock workers in the United States and the West, which will affect the global shipping capacity.

In addition, there are some factors that have forced the pressure of rising freight rates, including the congestion of major ports in Europe caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine; soaring oil prices; container shipping companies have begun to slow down

their sailings in response to new environmental protection regulations; the summer peak season is coming early.

Therefore, the world's major shipping companies began to evaluate and increase freight rates at the same time.

According to industry insiders, since it is the first increase since the continuous decline, the increase should not be small, and the time point for the increase is expected to fall around mid-June.
