Inflation in the United States is far from reaching its peak. In May, CPI exceeded expectations and broke the table, setting another 40 year high. In order to combat high inflation, the United States will implement the largest reform in the shipping sector since 1998. The situation of "high freight rates and hard to find a box" may be reversed.

Democratic leaders of the house of representatives said they planned to take a measure passed by the Senate next week to strengthen the regulatory restrictions on shipping

business and restrict the ability of shipping companies to collect special fees.

The bill, known as the ocean transportation reform law, was passed by oral vote in the Senate in March.

Shipping industry and trade officials said that the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has the power to implement many enforcement tools in the bill,

and the White House is planning to incorporate details into the law to urge regulators to take action.

The bill will make it more difficult for shipping companies to refuse to export goods.

In the past two years, shipping companies have shipped a large number of empty containers back to Asia to earn more shipping costs, resulting in a shortage of container supply

in North America.

U.S. inflation has not yet reached its peak.

In May, CPI hit a 40 year high year-on-year. On June 10, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released data showing that the U.S. CPI rose by 8.6% year-on-year, a new high

since December 1981, and higher than the 8.3% growth rate last month and expected; CPI increased by 1% month on month, significantly higher than the expected 0.7% and 0.3% last month.

Biden pointed out on Thursday that one of the main reasons for the rise in shipping costs was that nine ocean shipping companies controlled the trans Pacific market and

increased freight rates by 1000%. In his speech at the port of Los Angeles on Friday, Biden said: it is time for ocean shipping companies to know that "extortion is over". One of

the key ways to combat inflation is to reduce the cost of goods transportation in the supply chain.

The bill passed by Congress is the largest reform of shipping rules since 1998. The world shipping Council said it would wait until Congress passed the bill before commenting on it.

Christine mdaniel, a senior researcher in international trade at the mercatus center of George Mason University, said that regulatory reform may have unexpected consequences

for the shipping industry. She was worried about the provisions aimed at preventing shipping companies from unreasonably reducing exports.

Mdaniel added that to some extent, the government will tell shipping companies what they can and cannot do, or what they must and cannot do, which is the most worrying.
