On June 7 local time in Malaysia, a fire broke out in the Northport (Malaysia) Bhd container area near Jalan Pelabuhan Utara, Port Klang, and 13 containers were burned.
The fire occurred in the AA Bay parking area of the North Port Container Terminal, where a total of 330 dangerous goods containers were stacked. The containers on fire contained flammable and explosive hazardous materials such as aerosols.
After the fire broke out, the Selangor State Fire Department in Malaysia rushed to the scene urgently. It is understood that 14 fire trucks from 9 fire and rescue stations (BBPs) participated in firefighting.
The director stated in a statement that "the fire affected 333 containers ranging from 20 feet to 40 feet in the container yard at the port, of which 13 containers were burned
Firefighters controlled the spread of the fire at 11:40 pm by irrigating and using machines to separate containers. The entire firefighting work was completed at 2:20 pm. The site is still undergoing cleaning operations.
At the same time, Klang North Port stated in a statement that the incident did not cause any casualties, and the port's operations were not affected by the fire.
At present, the Beigang operator is cooperating with the authorities to investigate the cause of the accident, confirm whether the items declared by the fire container are true, and take necessary measures to prevent potential risks.
Port Klang is the largest port in Malaysia and the 12th largest container port in the world. The container throughput will reach 13.22 million TEU in 2022.
Klang is currently composed of two port areas, Westports and Northport, respectively, which operate Southpoint.
On April 4, 2022, there was also a fire in the West Port. 22 containers were burned and 38 boxes were damaged. The items burned included Machine element, music equipment, cotton, baby walkers, lubricants, etc.
Anthony Locke, the Minister of Transport, said that the fire investigation of Port Klang Authority and North Port was still in progress and would involve all aspects, including false declaration.
If false declarations are involved, strict action will be taken against the responsible person
